Covid-19 Red Alert has affected the work of CoCoSI with the most vulnerable populations.

First: A shout-out to our Healthcare Frontline Hospital and Clinic workers against COVID-19. You are our heroes and saints; please take special care of yourselves, this planet desperately needs you all.
The Association CoCoSI is in compliance with all preventative measures and protocols issued by the Salvadoran Government and the Ministry of Health. All planned activities and coordination with other organizations, both governmental and non-governmental, have been suspended for the month of March, now looking like until the 20th of April, affecting 100% of our Annual Work Plan.
For the past several years, President Nayib Bukele’s ‘Territorial Control Plan’ to reduce crime and violence in El Salvador using a variety of aggressive measures against gang structures, has created difficulties in complying with all the scheduled activities in the Center Prison of Sensuntepeque. Furthermore Covid-19 is creating more obstacles to completing planned activities. CoCoSI is conscious and understands the seriousness of this virus, and we are very concerned about the health of the people we work with, more vulnerable because many are living with HIV and/or persons deprived of their liberty.
It is important to mention that one security and prevention measure of the government is the closing of small businesses, directly affecting many people with HIV accompanied by CoCoSI. These folks make up part of the informal work sector, survive and cover their basic needs on their trade, animals, small store in their homes, baking sweet breads in their homes and selling house to house; making and selling pupusas and tortillas.
CoCoSI will continue to advocate for the fulfillment of their Human Rights and monitor the health of the people we have worked for many years. We are hopeful that this pandemic will soon be under controle and that we can go back to work with our target population.
